SQL is a great idea - the SET statement gives the 
OP all kinds of possibilities, including trimming 
and conversion functions like DIGITS and REPLACE - as you know!

But maybe those who are reluctant to go to RPG IV 
would be just as leary of SQL - we shall see. I 
hope they are at a fairly new release of the OS.
