The API you're looking for is one that has been on the to-do list for MH for quite some time. It was almost completed a release or two ago, but then something with a higher priority reared it's ugly head -- and you know how that goes... :-)

Per "used with various" APIs comment, presumably there is still no
API to effect /Display Message for the retrieved message key and queue/
:-( as function I had requested additionally [recorded also in that
link; by then, probably already years after the request]. Bummer to
have to write one's own QMHSCLVL too.
