I don't accept your premise that skilled RPG programmers would be
stumped for long by encountering a matching records program. They
might have to spend 20 minutes or so reading up on it then they should
have no trouble.

If your answer is go ahead with it and document it really well in the
cycle program so they can understand it, then my next question is: is it
really that hard or impossible to use the standard method? If your
answer is yes, then that is what we disagreed on, which would need to
resolve under IT shop standard or preference.

Standard method? If cycle coding is allowed by my shop standards then
it is a standard method.

(Note: old and lazy is never a good excuse in a professional field. I
certainly do not want to hear my doctor say that to me.) :)

I think there's a false premise in there. I may be both old and lazy
but I prefer to select the best tool for a particular job.
