Hi Vern, yes that is me though it was Kazakhstan.

DSPFFD actually kind of lies to us when giving the lengths of
dates/times/timestamps. It reports the external lengths - internal is
a different story.

I'm pretty sure that a date field in the database actually occupies
those 10 characters and it is a character representation whatever the
internal scaliger representation. This is the limiting factor.

I think my main point that it is a technical discussion of the
implementation of dates affecting RPG on the i5 and is therefore on
topic whether it has obvious commercial relevance or not.
