Francis,

You used COMP in an RPG III program yesterday?
Are you listening to yourselves?

Enough said.

Actually, Betamax was the superior format; it is still used in some
broadcast-quality applications in an enhanced format. But anyway..

There are times when the cycle greatly simplifies my life. If I'm going to
read the entire file, anyway, why shouldn't I use it? And if an MR program
fits the bill, I say, go for it. Anybody else can dig up their old
programming books (or better yet, just Google it or at least look it up in
the RPG Reference on Infocente)r.

The cycle is a tool of the language. It is there to be used. Recall that
RPG
originally didn't even have the IF opcode - you had to use COMP nad use
the
resulting indicators to branch with GOTOs. Nobody in their right ming
would
do that today, but I have seen stuff that still uses COMP (and I confess,
I
even used COMP in an RPG III program yesterday). It works - plain and
simple.
