You can use the same C functions in an RPG program - just be sure not to use any F-specs for these.

Look for the redbook - "Who Knew You Could" - written by Jon Paris and Susan Gantner, et al., at

http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redbooks/pdfs/sg245402.pdf

That does not have anything specific to the file APIs, but the principles should be transferable.

Once you get through some of the basics, do a google on "ropen rpg" - lots of hits

Good luck!

No, sorry, nothing involving OVRDBFs and new shared open data paths
would be even remotely applicable to the situation at hand.

Compare this relatively simple C example:

_RFILE *fp1, *fp2;

fp1 = Ropen("foo/bar", "rr");
fp2 = Ropen("boz/bar", "rr");

frobozz(fp1);
frobozz(fp2);

rclose(fp1);
rclose(fp2);

.
.
.
void frobozz(_RFILE *fp) {

char buffy[81];
_Rreadf(fp, buffy, 80, __DFT);
printf("%-80.80s\n", buffy);
}

We "frobozz" first one file, then the other.

Is there a way to do something similar in ILE RPG?
