If you're having many records with invalid dates, I strongly recommend
testing them first. That avoids the extra error handling of the date
exception and also all of the messages in the joblog.
IMO, monitor should be used sparingly, only for things that are
unexpected or if there is no easy way provided to test in advance.
Right at the moment I can only think of one particular piece of code
(which appears in two or three programs) where I use monitor.
