I believe if you compile with the *debugio and then
run the program in debug with a watch on *inkl,
it will give you a clue to which field in the file is
corrupting the indicator.

Have you tried debugging the program and setting a watch on *INKL?
Yep - that is where this all began. Before the chain, *INKL is off. As
soon as the chain executes, *INKL is turned on.
As has been mentioned a couple of times so far, it may in fact be that the
memory location holding *INKL is somehow being overwritten. Just cannot
seem to figure out how or by what :)
