I use them all the time, and it doesn't necessarily have to be dynamic.

(Though dynamic is good because everything you can do with static SQL
you can do with dynamic)

Exec sql Select count(*) into :Xcount from qtemp/custfile
Where :Countactive = 'Y' and custfile.activeflag = 'Y'
Or :Countactive <> 'N' and custfile.activeflag <> 'Y' ;
