I was certain the *INLR being set in program A would
close all open files, but obviously not.
Nope - never has done that. The only time this might "appear" to have
happened is if program A were running in a *NEW AG - then when the AG was
torn down by A RETURNing to its caller the files for both programs would
have been closed.
At this point I'm wondering if I'm missing something
obvious or I'm forgetting some basic idea?
Yup - looks like you're having a Friday afternoon on a Monday <grin>. What
you've forgotten is that there is zero connection between files opened in
one program and in another - other than possibly a shared OPD.
