How about bin(4) or char(10)? I think that if you want to say char(*)
is a pointer, then you have to be willing to say that every type is a
pointer.
Consider the case where the parameter really is a pointer; if you pass
it by reference, then under the covers, you pass a pointer to a pointer.
I think that's the only case where we should say that the parameter
type is a pointer. If we try to use the "pointer" terminology for other
types, it would be very difficult to talk about true pointer parameters.
