Hi Eduard,

I currently have an SMS messaging system setup on our System i. The GSM
modem connects using serial port; however, I have chosen to connect the
serial port into a serial to Ethernet adaptor allowing me to place the GMS
outside of our server room and into a wiring closet that has a much better
wireless signal.

To communicate with a GSM modem you need to use AT commands. These are a set
of command defined by AT&T way back in the day. It's not necessary though.
We use a product that handles inbound/outbound sms communication (queuing).
You can setup inbound message filters that do pretty much anything like
execute a CL or RPG program, etc. There are also features in there to
monitor your iSeries and execute commands on your machine from your cell
phone using sms... it's actually really cool!.

If you like I can give you a quick demo. Let me know.

Milan
