Yeah, this is what I guess I'll have to do. Although if anyone could
explain to me why the %scan stops at the x'25' character, it'd be much
appreciated.

Yes, you will have to write a loop to use the %Scan BIF.
pos = %Scan(NewLine:SearchStr);
DoW pos <> 0;
// do your stuff.
pos = %Scan(NewLine:SearchStr:(Pos + 1); EndDo;

So if I use %scan, and it's going to stop when it encounters a new line
character, and this is working as designed, I hope someone updates the
help for the BIF. ;) But that's really my question, is this working
as intended? If it is, that means I have to write a loop to scan for
new line characters (assuming that works), and within that scan for the
actual value I seek - ugh, extra work. I don't mind writing code till
my fingerprints are worn away, but not when the help doesn't reflect the
nuances of a function. Maybe I'm just spoiled, as the RPG help is
actually pretty helpful.

Kurt,
my guess would be that the opcode you use to scan the stream file, gives
it back to you in chunks delimited by the CR.
That's why it stops at the first CR encountered.
Of course, I could be wrong.

%scan and the new line character
I'm reading some data from the IFS. I'm then scanning it for a value,
but it's not working.
Here's the data, without the quotes:
"
blah blah [variable] blah blah
"
So there's a new line or carriage return on the very first line, and at
the end of the 2nd line. The value I'm scanning for is [variable].
When I start the scan in position one, the value is not found. If I
start the scan in position 2, the scan finds the search value. Through
a variety of position testing, it appears to me that once the scan
encounters the new line character, it stops scanning and returns a 0,
not found.
I'm on v5r4. Has anyone encountered this? Does this make sense for
some reason that I'm not thinking of?
