This is standard stuff, but I think I need a "intermediate" storage step
to hold the initially read record, yes?
Yes - you need to be able to compare an image of the original record (I.e.
the version you originally displayed) with the one you read with lock. The
easiest way to do this (V5R2+) is to use a DS as the result field. DS can
be defined using externally described DS or using the LIKEREC keyword. If
you have V5R4, the population of the fields in the database from the display
is easy as you can use EVAL-CORR to move the data.
