Hi Mike,

I have some fields that are numeric coming in from an outside source.
The program bombs when there is a data decimal error of course.

If the fields are coming from an outside source, are they actually formatted as packed or zoned fields in a database?

When I work with numeric fields from an outside source, they're usually formatted in a human-readable format (like an RPG number after an edit code is applied to it... it has a decimal point, and no leading or trailing zeroes, etc.)

If that's what you're dealing with, read it into a character field, and use %DEC() to convert it to numeric.

I am
wanting to prevent this from occuring. Do you normally take care of
this in the begining of your program and how do you do so?
