And my point was aimed at those who insist that The Cycle
(which I see as one of the very few good reasons to use RPG
instead of some other language) is obsolete and useless.
And everybody else point is that what you did in two lines with the cycle could
have been done in 1
with SQL.
If you're knowledgeable about RPG, C, OPNQRYF, CL, MI, PL/I, BASIC, FORTRAN,
HTML, and C, why haven't
you learned SQL yet? It's certainly not new and who knows, you may find that
it can often reduce your
effort by 50%.
Has far as not having STRSQL, that's not a big deal. You could have simply
used iSeries Navigator's
"Run SQL Scripts". Before you say anything, no you don't need a iSeries Access
license to use iSeries
Navigator. Many third party options also exist that allow you to run SQL
statements against the
iSeries from you PC.
