The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.
If you know of an easy to use, open source, search engine ... please contact support@midrange.com.
There's one other reason that I haven't seen anyone else mention:
You're already using ILE by using RPG IV. Using service programs is not
a requirement for ILE and you are already creating modules (these are
done under the covers when you use the CRTBNDxxxPGM commands).

Subject: Re: Help! Boss wants to know why ILE?
Thank you for the replies! Just a couple questions on the replies
though.
* Language extensions that only exist in ILE RPG
I don't understand this one?
* The ability to interface with ILE C
True, although so far none of our programs have had a use for
the
C functions. I've used
a couple and they can be helpful.
There is also the abundant Bif's + the date manipulation along with
everything else that has been mentioned.
I thought the BIF's and date routines were available to all RPG
IV
code not just ILE programs. I've never had any trouble using them with
plain RPG IV programs. Are there specific Bif's usable only in an ILE
environment?
