When using VB and SQL, it hogged up the precious "interactive"

resourses bringing

the system to its knees.

Not to be blunt, but you're wrong. Unless your VB app started a 5250
session and screen-scraped it for the data it won't be interactive. SQL
requests sent to the 400 from the PC via ODBC/OLEDB/.NET/JDBC/etc. are
all handled in a batch manner, no hit from the "interactive tax".
