That's not bad, but if you expect very few errors, then the monitor works better. But, judging by the endLoop variable I assume that you are putting this into a WORKSTN loop. Then performance won't be that big of a deal as it will be more affected by "key think" time. However a batch job, with numerous character fields to convert, on a large file, may make a significant difference. Rob Berendt
