Jack, IBM supports Vista with the latest service pack for iSeries Access v5r4. http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/eserver/iseries/access/supportedos.html HTH, Charles -----Original Message----- From: rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of derhamj Sent: Monday, March 12, 2007 2:44 PM To: 'RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries' Subject: RE: Web poll WDSCi / SEU / Code400 results after 146 respondents Joe, there is no question that the design intent was to make a much better product but the implementation plan has left much to be desired. I have not open the new onion - v7. Plan on doing that after the 16th of March when the hard copy is supposed to be ready for distribution. Any one want to make bet on the March Madness (Happening in April) or whether the WDSC team will make a clean release. I have been collecting the messages about WDSC from the MidRange lists for the last two years and it really reads like a Mac Sinnott movie from the 20's. I also have bitten the bullet with Vista and I can forget about having an iSeries Navigator or WDSC in that environment for some time. I believe the IBM current speak is that they are not supporting Vista. Hard to believe isn't it. I guess that old joke that IBM stands for "I Built Microsoft" is true because with no support for Vista they are obviously going to lose more market share and that gets right into your and my pocket book. From: derhamj 3-Cheers to Mr. Bob for speaking the truth - quick, dirty and with iSeries Access let's you do most of the stuff needed to generate a business application. Admittedly it is not in vogue but maybe that's because the youngsters don't know how to smoothly operate it or maybe the R&T boys of IBM are trying to be our "Big Uncle.
UPDDTA lets you do most of what you need to do in a business application. The point is whether the tool is better, and hands down, WDSC is better than SEU and PDM. From syntax highlighting to content assist to outline view to multi-library searches, the capabilities of WDSC make SEU look -- well, look like the 20-something software it is. Wonderful for its time, but somewhat outmoded. The misreading of the market by the people at IBM in no way diminishes the superiority of the tool. In my mind, there are very few people at IBM who understand the iSeries community and the fact that we are innovators, given the proper tools. Unfortunately, suggesting that SEU is a reasonable alternative to WDSC helps the iSeries-challenged majority pigeonhole the iSeries community as a bunch of technological Luddites.
