So is mine
my prepare statement is in as subroutine that is executed numerous places

**********************************************************************************************

 C Xcutesql begsr
 c/EXEC SQL
 c+ prepare sel from :Sqlstatement
 c/END-EXEC
 c/EXEC SQL
 C+ EXECUTE sel
 c/END-EXEC
  *
 c endsr

I'm wondering what and where (within your source) do you have for your
(what I call) SQL h specs
I have
 C/EXEC SQL
C+ Set Option Commit = *None
 C/END-EXEC

as the first C-specs, directly after my last D-specs

That's what I'm doing. The trouble is the code needs to be executed
multiple times. After the first time, I receive SQL0100 which says
the statement i.d. (sel in your example) is already in use.
