Jerry, It can do the translation from one CCSID to another. I think the flag you specify in the open to make it do that is O_TEXTDATA. This flag also will do the translation on the write. You can actually store data in any format you want. Scott Kelment has written quite a bit about IFS API's and his website (http://www.scottklement.com/rpg/) is full of lots of very useful information and examples.
