The drawbacks would depend on the program.  If the user is using a subfile
to update records, then the subfile program kicks them out because of a
record lock, then the user will have to remember where they were before the
program kicked them out.

IMHO, I think it would be best to keep the record lock error handling in
the RPG program.

I could monitor for this CPF3156. and post a message to the user. Just
was wondering if there were any drawbacks to this method.

You've got to put your code where you are reading the record. Don't
think you can do it in a CL if you are reading the record in a follow-on
RPG program...
