It sounds as though you could do this with relative record numbers. 
Increment the RRN counter, read/chain by the counter, and write/update the 
new record in place. When the RRN is larger than your maximum record 
number, reset the RRN to 1.

If you set up an index by date/time, you can view it in entry sequence. If 
you view it in RRN order it will wrap, so that could get confusing.
