Was I wrong all along?
In my experience - mostly - yes. A lot of people (many of whom should have known better) got all bent out of shape over the object size - but it was never a big deal unless you were really tight on DASD. The PGM objects are bigger - yes. But that's not particularly meaningful in and of itself. The generated code makes extensive use of service programs which in the end should reduce the memory footprint. In the early days there were a few programs that utilized specific features that caused performance issues - but that was 10 years ago. Most of these issues have been addressed and I can't recall the last time that anybody told me that the performance was worse. Somebody else mentioned that you had to be "real" ILE for the optimizer to do anything for you. I've had many customers tell me that it improves the performance of their "ordinary" RPG IV programs. Your mileage may vary. Jon Paris Partner400 www.Partner400.com
