Actually, I am writing one now and possibly another one after this. I would
only use this for new files in the application, not on old files. I am just
asking questions and learning.

contemplating a new file that's never been used before, then give RI a
try.  I'm only trying to raise awareness that adding RI to an existing
file will result in I/O errors in existing (tested and running for
years) programs.
