I am talking about new programs only. I would never make that drastic of a change to old programs unless it was a complete rewrite.
It's pretty rare to write a brand new application from scratch. One that shares no files with any other programs on the system. If you're contemplating a new file that's never been used before, then give RI a try. I'm only trying to raise awareness that adding RI to an existing file will result in I/O errors in existing (tested and running for years) programs.
