RE: Using An Unsigned Field

Well, the V5R3 book says (about %SCAN):

"The type of the return value is unsigned integer. This built-in
function can be used anywhere that an unsigned integer expression is
valid."

I've used 5I 0 with %SCAN, but now that you mention it, that seems
unnecessary. %SCAN can't return a negative number.

I have found a field defined as 5 U 0 which I would normally define as 5
I 0.  This field is used as a result for a scan operation:

D Pos             S              5U 0 

Pos = %Scan(' ': FIELDA)  

Is there any value in having this field unsigned instead of signed?
