ASC( the developers of SEQUEL400 used to have a method of de-compiling RPG programs. You would send them the object and they would retrieve the source. It worked very well. I sent them some program objects to help them test the process and the source they retrieved was an exact match. I don't know if they still do that or not. Talk to Ken Kelly of ASC if you are curious. Other than that... (especially if you OPTIMIZE(*FULL) it) there's no practical way. -Bob Cozzi www.iSeriesTV.com Ask your Manager to watch iSeriesTV.com -----Original Message----- From: rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of albartell Sent: Friday, September 01, 2006 11:26 AM To: 'RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries' Subject: Decompile - Projecting source I am writing some code for a client that we would normally have them sign a license agreement for, but they "need the code NOW" and don't want to get the lawyers involved which obviously takes much longer than "now". I can easily disable the software after a period of time by hardcoding a date into the program and checking it each time the program is run, but I don't want them to be able to gain access to the source to see ANYTHING. They are not malicious by any means, but I want to protect my butt and still meet their timelines. So here is what I am wondering... If I compile my code with zero debugging options in an effort to protect the source, does somebody have any way whatsoever of viewing that code? Aaron Bartell http://mowyourlawn.com
