That won't help, as the users have to page down 2 times (2 files in output 
mode) before they can see the actual message I write to the message subfile.
I write customized messages in case of errors on the screen, even if there are 
no errors, they have to press page down every time just to make sure.

Why don't you just remove the message from the job log?
