Erm, surely if you place the EXFMT outside of the loop you're going to end
up with an infinite loop as the user would never have another chance to
press the F3 key?

Hi,

Another thing you could do is place the EXFMT outside the loop and have the
DOW check for F3. You could then keep the body of your loop the same.

Hi

You're not conditioning the "WRITE STUDREC", so when you press F3
you're still telling the program to write a record to the STUDENT file.

You should have:

         C IF *IN03 = *OFF
0007.00 C EVAL SID =dSID
0008.00 C WRITE STUDREC
         C ENDIF

As a matter of preference, I would tend to code the loop as a "DOU
*IN03 = *ON" purely because you know that you want the screen to be
displayed at least once and saying "Do until F3 is pressed" makes more
sense than "Do while F3 hasn't been pressed" (especially as F3 can't
have been pressed before the screen is displayed).

All the best

Jonathan
