I'm adding a little more logic here, where I'm trimming and checking the length. If they specify a short date format, then they get an error if it is more than six long.
It sounds like you're writing a generate "convert date" routine. You might consider using an API instead of using TEST and %DATE to convert
it,
that way you don't have to manually code every format.
