V5R3

ShortDate = %Dec( %Date(LongDate:*ISO) : *YMD);

What I've done on earlier releases (not sure when I was able to first use)

ShortDate = %Int( %Char( %Date(LongDate:*ISO) : *YMD0 ) );

Hi All

I'm sure the answer is easy, my brain isn't engaging today.

I have the following:

     D  LongDate       S              8S 0
     D  ShortDate      S              6S 0
      /FREE
           shortdate = %dec(Longdate : 6 : 0);
      /END-FREE

When running this, I get a "receiver too small" error.

So, my alternative (that works) is:
          shortdate = %dec(%subst(%char(Longdate) : 6):6:0);

Is there a better way? I would have thought the first example would
work and don't understand why not.

Any ideas or thoughts?

Regards,
Terry
PS: Obviously I understand that this can result in the loss of data,
and that's perfectly ok in my scenario.
