Bob, I get it. I kind of like that approach. One of my issues here with using external defines is duplicating prototypes. This may be my answer. Rick

The logic is actually the opposite of what you're describing. If the symbol is NOT defined, the member is included, the symbol is defined. Should the member be /COPY'd into the same program again, the symbol is already defined and therefore the member is not /COPY'd in (the /EOF directive causes this). -Bob Cozzi www.iSeriesTV.com Ask your Manager to watch iSeriesTV.com -----Original Message----- From: rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Rick.Chevalier@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Tuesday, August 08, 2006 11:37 AM To: rpg400-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: Compiler directive Bob, I apologize if this was mentioned in another post. The thread is coming across in chunks for me. What member name are you using for the define? Is it the copy member name or the program source member name? I'm thinking it has to be the copy member name. If that's correct I don't understand the point of defining it in your example. The MBRNAME define isn't used after it's defined. If it is defined (by the program source I presume) when the member is loaded the copy source is skipped. It seems backwards to me. That way I never have an issue with multi-defined symbolicnames. However Ido often include an underscore in the name just to be moreconfidentthat it isn't defined elsewhere. For example: If NOT DEFINED(APPTITLE_MBRNAME) /DEFINE APPTITLE_MBRNAME etc. -Bob Cozzi www.iSeriesTV.com Ask your Manager to watch iSeriesTV.comPrivileged and Confidential.
