In V5R3 they made a lot of nice enhancements to the precompiler.  Until 
then it was as stagnant as CL was.  V5R4 both got better.  Don't know if 
the limitations were upped.

And you may be right on the "unreal" part for "many" applications.  But 
I'd bet your sweet bippy that there's a lot of tables with more than that 
number of rows.
