Actually, Op's Nav isn't the prereq - iSeries Access is.  But that's just 
splitting hairs, unless you are already using iSeries Access for 5250 
sessions.

This comes up quite often and should be searchable in the archives.  If 
not the rpg list, then the midrange-l list.  Wait, the search function in 
the archives are temporarily down!

If you don't want to use STRPCCMD, then you can use the Retrieve Device 
Description Information (QDCRDEVD) api.  Get the ip address of the 5250 
session and then use RUNRMTCMD.  However, here's the catch 22.  You need a 
remote command execution daemon on your target pc.  iSeries Access 
includes one.  Failing that, I believe the archives noted some places 
where you can download someone else's.
