There is another alternative, which may take a bit longer, but will be much more thorough: Read the manuals. That's how I started 35 years ago. About 5 years into it, my then employer paid for me to take the IBM course. The first thing the teacher stated was: You don't have to take notes because everything I'm going to tell you is in the book. The only thing I really gained out of that course was more detailed understanding of the RPG cycle - which is seldom used any more. The problem with taking classes is that you are taught what the teacher thinks is important. When you read the manual, you may not understand everything you read, but you will then be able to know that you read SOMETHING about a certain problem, even if you can't find the exact page. You'll also have an idea of what kind of question to ask. If you haven't read the manual, you don't even know if your problem IS a problem... FWIW... I'm currently a Microsoft .NET developer and was hired by a company that mainly do RPG development but did have one .NET project that needed to be worked on. I was hired as a .NET developer with the understanding that I would need to learn and work with RPG and Java. Right now I need to be trained in RPG but I can't seem to find anything local here. Does anyone know of any good places to learn RPG programming in or around Oklahoma City? If I need to travel for training I might be able to do it but my employer would prefer if I stick around here. If there is an online course I could probably do that too.
