rpg will exist and be light years ahead of today. ibm's already on that path and been delivering. 
6 years ago that was not apparent, but today it is.
It's funny that part of this thread has been to compare rpg and the system i to cheap off the shelf stuff when businesses i work with are asking for more sophistication, more complex integration, more seamless interaction between analysis products (many not windows based excel-like but better) and demanding much more relaibility and far less handholding. A phrase used in a prev thread - "not great but good enough" - i don't have anyone asking for that...They want lights out, no tech in sight, it just works...

and free format using the development studio will be that norm long before 10 years 
fixed format in 5 years will be the rpgii of today... imho
web years are shrinking and so is the time to adapt
