Hi All I've just gotta comment, just gotta - lol. IMHO It all depends on what the business needs are... That large software package they just bought that needs customising, and they want this data brought in from this website, and can you grab this data directly from that database. So, what language are we going to use? Now, before I continue I would say that the geniuses on this list could probably say "Connect to Oracle DB is no problem", but most RPGers out there would start talking FTP and flat files. I used to code 100% RPG 6 years ago. Then, JD Edwards brought out OneWorld written in C with their proprietary scripting language. Now I write 10% RPG. So, what's my point? Is RPG keeping up with the demands of the business needs? Is it evolving fast enough? I hate to say it (I really do) I don't think it is. RPG is trying to play catch up, and losing. IBM needs to up the ante, and make some serious enhancements. Look forward to hearing your thoughts! Kind regards, BTW: Oracle claims that over 50% of databases out there are Oracle. > -----Original Message----- > From: rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] > On Behalf Of steema@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > Sent: 26 May 2006 14:06 > To: RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries > Subject: RPG, 10 years from now > > HI - This is a Friday topic.
