Hi Scott,Wow! that took me back. I remember an RPG II program that did just that -- used SPECIAL device file opened for I/O to which it would use output specs to write a formatted number, then read it back in to the get the formatted number into a variable. The SPECIAL device program just moved the output buffer back to the input buffer, a trivial little program.
Remembering that sure makes me appreciate the %editc and %editw bifs even more.
