Scott, you're correct... it's time to relax.

When dealing with small amounts of data, single file reads, etc to fill
subfile... your solution will work. However, when dealing with larger
files, page at a time loads are better. There's the difference, you
assumed load at once subfile and I assumed a page at a time. I was only
saying that your solution won't work when your dealing with the larger
amounts of data.

In this case... to clarify my reasoning... maybe a workfile isn't correct.
However, this subfile is being populated by a physical file somehow... I
assume. Meaning the zip code is stored in the file by customer. So an
array wouldn't be the best option. A logical file by customer/zip code
would be the best option. Chain by customer/zip code. if found, then
don't allow the zip code to be added to the customer.

Yes I know that I said that he should use a workfile and write to it
whenever there's a write to the subfile.

There's the hole in your logic. If the data can be reached by a logical
file, an array isn't needed. Even though I didn't explain it that way,
that's what I was getting at. I would hope that so-called "programmers"
just need a nudge to find a solution rather than given a full push.

As for the comment about me thinking where subfile records are stored...
there's an elfenland?

You said it wouldn't work for YOUR situation, Alan. Maybe that was a
mistake in your grammar, I don't know.

> YOUR response was WRONG for HIS question and I (as well as others) gave

Unfortunately, there were big gaping holes in your reasons. That's why I
responded and explained why I wasn't wrong.

a) Charles never said it was a single-page load subfile.

b) Charles' message wouldn't have made any sense for a single page load
subfile. (Unless I missed it?)

c) My suggestion WOULD work for a single-page load subfile, if small
enough. And with modifications, it would work for a larger one as well.

But I've already explained that to you, and you've ignored me. If you
want to point out a flaw in my logic, by all means do so. So far,
however, you've failed to do that.

It pisses me off when some idiot tells me that solutions I use every day,
and work very well for me, don't work. Really, they do. I use them. All
the time.
