I assume there's more to your code as what is there doesn't make sense.

The SQL statement always updates the same set of records, why run it for
every record in your customer file unless there is only one record in
the file; in which case why read the customer file at all.

What other messages are in the joblog?  You don't by chance see anything
about the file not being journaled do you?

By default, the CRTSQLRPGI command has COMMIT(*CHG), thus any files
changed using SQL would need to be journaled.
