RPG on IBM mainframes (360/370/3xxx) was meant to be a quick way to change data or create report(s) in a batch mode. As mentioned previously it was RPG-I. There seemed no economical intention to expand RPG on mainframes. Online programs were accomplished using CICS and COBOL. So for todays Gurus there is more to life than ILE. RPG (online) on Midrange platforms WHERE easier/quicker in the past. It is 2006 and instead of making programmers more productive (excluding Case tools), it is not. Been there, done that !
