That is kind of what I though it would happen. However, we are encountering some problems where when client program ended abnormally without calling close() api, the server seems to be hanging on to the connection. When we try to restart the client program we get the host refuses connection error. We normally end up have to call the admin to clear the port to be able to reconnect again. -----Original Message----- From: rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of David Gibbs Sent: Wednesday, January 18, 2006 11:09 AM To: RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries Subject: Re: General socket question: Would server knows the connection hasbeen broken if client drop the connection without calling close() Scott Klement wrote: >> If I've a socket program that connected to a server and the program >> ended abnormally without calling the close() to close the connection, >> would the server knows that the connection has been broken and auto >> drop the connection? > How can the client drop the connection without calling close()? To answer Scott's question ... ENDJOB OPTION(*IMMED) SIGNOFF To answer Lim's question ... If the connection is dropped, the server should receive an error when it tries to read, write, or select, because the socket would not longer be valid. david -- This is the RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries (RPG400-L) mailing list To post a message email: RPG400-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/rpg400-l or email: RPG400-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/rpg400-l.
