I'd say your best ammunition for this would be Barbara's reply.

If somebody on the IBM RPG IV compiler team says it's a bad idea, then it's a 
bad idea.

Additionally, Jon's and Scott's replies should count almost as high as 
Barbara's.

Lastly, be sure and mention the problems pointed out by Larry and others.
