Parsing that can be a big pain. I did write a rather complex subroutine to do that for a file we get from a vendor, but that is always FIRST LAST (sometimes they have a title, a middle initial and/or a suffix). Contact me off-list if you want the source. How can you tell which name is first and which is last? We used to have a Congressman from Louisiana named Chris John. One of your examples, ELIZABETH GLENN, well, that could, conceivably, go either way. I would talk to the vendor who is sending you this stuff. The least he could do is put a comma after the last name if it's in last, first format. Francis Lapeyre IS Dept. Programmer/Analyst Stewart Enterprises, Inc. I have a field that is passed to an RPGLE Service program of Name now it could be First Last Name or Last Name First Name and so on and trying to figure out how to pull the correct names out of the full name... I have no ability to change the sender to have a First and Last Name field sent since this is an outside vendor..... Stumped on this one... Some examples "WOODS RICHARD P" "LISA K. PORCHE" "ELIZABETH GLENN" Thanks for your time...-John John Major jmajor@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx -- This is the RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries (RPG400-L) mailing list To post a message email: RPG400-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/rpg400-l or email: RPG400-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/rpg400-l.
