Slowly I am starting to understand what's going on here.
Any advice where I can find the proper documentation to fully understand how
this kind of prototype is coded?
I see the documentation for the MI functions, and see the results that I
blatantly copied, but I wouldn't be able to work out the way from one to the
other on my own.

There has to be documents somewhere explaining the missing link, right?
