I agree, but it's the only path available to most shops... RPGII to RPGIII is fairly simple, as long as file access remains internally defined. Converting files to DB2 tables is a larger problem, since it may require re-engineering the app to use common field names, data structure definitions, and so forth. From here, it's a straight conversion into RPGIV. However, even though you'd be using the ILE compiler, the program itself is, for the most part, still just RPGII. In this case, where there's so much ground to make up, a re-write might make more sense.....
