Presumably because the LF is keyed differently than the underlying PFs? If not, you can use the underlying PF that you really want to read. Of course you might be able to create a new LF over the one PF you want, or use OPNQRYF or SQL...

The names of the fields that are

That's reasonably common. If that poses a problem, you can rename the individual fields on the I specs.

If I understand the situation, you have 2 record formats in a LF and you only want to read records from one of the underlying PFs. READ with a record format name will do that. If I didn't guess right, you will need to post some more specific details about the situation; what did you try and what results you expected (but didn't get.)
