This looks like the best way to do it. I have done this in the past. I could design the data base file so I could have not only the tag printer id but the closest laser printer id. Some times you get locked on an ideal and that's it. But I am still want to try and get the data area working. Helps me learn. How about we simplify a little bit? If the intention is to keep the location the user entered indefinitely, create a file with fields for user and location. The create a service program with procedures that will update and retrieve this information. The actual prompt for the location could also be in the service program so a "Change Your Location" function could be called. Donald R. To write back to it, we just built a string to QCMDEXC. The documentation for the QWCRDTAA API is at: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/iseries/v5r1/ic2924/index.htm?info/apis/qwcrdt aa.htm <clip>
